N.I.A.M.O.S Radical Art & Music Cultural Centre We want to re-develop a historically and culturally significant building into a community arts wellbeing space. Archive the musical history of 'last landmark venue left in this forgotten community. Jewel in the Crown of musical eras, originally Playhouse theatre 1902, BBC in 1960's, re-opened by Nina Simone in 1991 NIA. With your help we can create a venue for this generation 'paying homage to the place where scenes were born raised and nurtured' autonomous D-I-Y theatre space run by real people showcasing real experience, in real times connecting our lives through, events, and celebrations; 'a shared living room to connect in community life; The funding is for the equipment to get set-up and operate for 6 months to develop our business plan Stage 1: Crowdfunding to set-up a co-operative, exhibition/ events space with a micro-bakery/ brewtap. Developing a community kitchen and shared table. Designing studios for music art and health.

What we'll deliver:

  • Build Roots a commercial community kitchen and dining room
  • Set-up voxbox a channel of archived recordings, videos and articles manchester music
  • Buy and Install Equipment bakery and bar
  • Launch Theatre production for all Supporters
  • Start-up capital for Ideas Factory workshops
  • Buy a coffee machine for box-office (vip very important part)
  • Lots of paint/plants/pottery for the whole building

Why it's a great idea:

OUR VISION unified - d-i-y - collective - economical - purposeful - creative -spiritual Operated by The workers co-operative n.i.a.m.o.s, The Playhouse is a large, fully-accessible, purpose-built theatre. Our venue is deeply rooted in the community and will serve as the hub of cultural life, where people come to experience and participate in a quality programme of work, with performances, productions and classes by local people. We recognise the need for Hulme to diversify, regenerate, to become a dynamic local economy and have a thriving cultural scene. We vote with our feet and choose the places we want to live' Solidarity Membership (£10pm £100 p.a) 'If you have come here to help me, you are wasting your time. But to join us then let us work together' All users of the space will need to be members and help build services that are responsive, relevant, and accountable to our community. (Membership anything you can give will make a difference and that we can offer you)

Steps to get it done:

  • Implementing Building Refurbishment - PPM Planned Maintenance Volunteers & Budget
  • Setting up the AV library online for Heritage Timeline for the building -voxbox
  • Finishing the business plan and Funding Strategy to show we are investment ready
  • Setting up the Trustee committee Securing the Community share issue and
  • Implementing our Marketing and Social Networking Strategy to raise awareness and deliver a successful crowdfund
  • Engage with Community through Save Hulme Hippodrome group to scope wider community vision
  • Organise volunteer days to clean, paint and remove rubbish from the building
  • Complete event plan and programme activities for the opening weekend

Now 30 years on 'Hulme may not set the pulses racing but it is a testiment to the virtues of the ordinary' Urbanist If change happen anywhere it will happen in Hulme We stand on the threshold of a revolution to awaken a lost community creative spirit and give a collective contribution.
