A crafty group for local people to use, crafting is a great stress reliever, myself and Angela both find it helps our depression & anxiety plus it helps us meet new friends and learn new things.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
Hi myself (Julie) and my friend Angela who I met in a dressmaking class at Newbury Community Center, we are aiming to set up a little craft group, on a drop in basis ( so there's no worries about attendance for those who have health problems etc) We are aiming out group to not only help members of the community to be able to learn new crafts, but also those who already know certain crafts can help learn others in the group, all of the ladies we've had come along so far (men very welcome too) have had either long term health conditions, disabilities or depression, anexity problems or like myself have all of the above. So meeting up at the local friendly and welcoming Newbury Community Center is ideal for us &.ite helped myself Angela and a few more ladies massively already. At the moment we've just used a few limited craft items we already had but we'd love to have some funds to set our little project up properly. Any funds would solely be used for this groups craft equipment & tools.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Helping get people together and out of the house. Helping people learn new craft ideas many that could help someone who's out of work to be able to maybe set up there own little business , or help full time mums be able to make items to sell. Crafting is fantastic stress reliever. Out of the 6 ladies who've already been to our little group all of them so far have either physical or mental health problems so often getting out of the house is very daunting, however because we understand how each other feels it's been a huge support, together each one of us have helped support each other, and I know for myself and Angela we've both spent years being housebound most of the time, but we've felt so comfortable being together with other ladies who've got similar problems it's helped us feel more confident both in our crafting and in the meeting of new people within our little craft group.
Steps to get it done:
Anyone is welcome we are currently running our class on Mondays 10am till 1pm, as it's a drop in you don't need to be there for the full 3 hours. At the moment we are limited to what crafting items we have to use , hopefully this will help us get some more funds, so at the moment as we need to pay for the room and things like adhesive's etc which we need each week, so we've been asking for £2 each to cover these basic costs, however we understand not everyone is always able to pay this, so we don't want to leave out those that can't afford this, hence why we're trying to get some funds so there's no worries about funds from those who are struggling financially. We'd really love for anyone to join us and as well as us trying to raise funds to keep our group going we'd also love any donations of craft items you may have lying round the house/office etc unused, as typical Crafters we'd find a use for most matierals. Thanks for reading We'd love to meet you Julie & Angela xx
