Creating a springboard for a locally led recovery and re-imagination of the North of Tyne
There needs to be specific areas for specific activities. This is so everyone knows exactly what to do in each area. And also so that more than one activity can be going on at any given time. There needs to be raised beds for elderly and disabled, for easy access. A fruit and vegetable patch, with polytunnel, so everyone can learn about growing their own food and somewhere they can share produce. A sensory garden mainly for the really young and disabled, this could be enjoyed by anyone. A willow tunnel built by local teens, as a hide out and something to hide their street art area. Get the local school involved, change it every year. A water feature with seating and a herb garden for relaxation, for anyone to enjoy. Fruit trees for the experience and produce the locals can share. A safe and relaxing space that will bring everyone in the community together.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The community of Newbiggin doesn't have an area like this yet. It is a fractured community, going through some negative changes with the loss of key places with the community; the loss of the post office means the local shops suffer and some have gone out of business. The old school building is being demolished, which meant to library moved and downsized. To name a few. There is a number of plots being developed into houses. This would help integrate new comers to a small community, where everyone already knows one another. It would help build bridges between subcultures with I the community. It would promote friendships between people that would otherwise not bother, due to imaginary boundaries, age, ability etc.
Steps to get it done:
