The school, although in the middle of a regeneration area, has not benefitted at all from the developers. We hope our new astro turf facility will encourage the pupils and local youth to use sport to develop collaboration, socialising, and team building skills. Something at the moment they lack big time!! The children at school are very keen on football and sport generally and we wish to tap into this enthusiasm. They go home from school and probably do not venture outside their doors until the following morning. Once they leave us and go to secondary school they probably do go out but are more vulnerable to be drawn into crime and drugs because they have nothing to do. By encouraging sport both during and after school we feel this will help the children become more positive about their lives and so hopefully raise themselves out of the never ending cycle their families are currently in .

What we'll deliver:

  • Make an astro turf sports pitch

Why it's a great idea:

We feel that by providing this new facility it will be a really brilliant way of encouraging our current pupils and our ex pupils who have now moved onto secondary school to become involved in sport on a regular basis. Sport is a great vehicle to promote healthy living, team building, self-discipline, collaboration and respect for each other. Participating in sport is a way of channelling aggression and frustration - feelings many of our children experience all the time because of their home circumstances.

Steps to get it done:

  • We will arrange for a contractor to lay the astroturf and apply the spoprts markings

It is hoped that the pitches will be used regularly by different sporting disciplines. We are optimistic that new teams will be formed to which the children can belong. Team-building, a feeling of belonging and healthy competition are an essential part of learning to be a socially acceptable adult. We just want them to have a better future to look forward to. To become nice people who are considerate, employable, trustworthy, reliable and happy.
