We wish to repurpose a parking bay by our flats in Rivenhall opposite Eagle Pond, E18. Since it is the location of anti social behaviour, and is an opportunity to convert it into a source of joy

we live at Rivenhall Gardens, opposite Eagle Pond, in Snaresbrook South Woodford in a 3 storey block of flats which has its own off street parking bays. The parking bay in question has been redundant for a few years now and given the current stay at home advise it was noticed how many residents in the block were using bikes more during lockdown for exercise and work. Therefore, we thought it would be a great opportunity to repurpose this parking bay to a bicycle store for the use of all the residents in the 'Brooksglade' block. Since it is our car parking bay, I realise this could devalue my flat, but feel it is a much better, greener use of the space. The bike hanger would have upto 9 spaces and each resident would have a key fob to enter. The entire hanger space will be defensible from the residents of 6 flats overlooking it from the block at the front of the building. The hanger could have a designor motif which would make it look smart.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Secure bike storage for the residents of Brooksglade. Eliminate drugs use in the parking bay. Reduce litter from people in cars eating takeaways and drug paraphanallia. Create fewer parking spaces and encourage biodiversity. Encourage cycling of the residents and space for visitor short stays.
Steps to get it done:
I notice my parking bay is always pinched by drivers who don't live on the estate and keep their engines idling when they make drug purchases. Thereafter, they dump their rubbish in this area and bushes. I go out most weekends to litter pick and recently found a large adult nappy full, and two discards speakers. It would be far nicer to create secure storage for cycles in this area and deter the drug users and make a pleasant space with secure by design principals at the heart of the project. It would be used exclusively for the residents of Brooksglade, however many more would be implimented if this one is a sucess and could be used as a showcase to create the change towards a greener more sustainable furture.
