Wellingborough may be a 'deprived' area but it is home to many young artists. Despite lockdowns and cost-of-living crises hurt their potential, there is real talent growing. This Autumn, we have successfully provided free sessions to deprived youths in collaboration with Victoria Centre. We are looking to expand the number of young artists we develop, to reach out to 'deprived' communities and raise expectations. We are working with local community leaders to invest in the futures of the Young Artists of Wellingborough to prove we are a creative town and a place worth being proud of and staying to work in.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
This will bring new opportunities to young artists in Wellingborough. We are working with youths who will be disadvantaged in school and through our early intervention, we can increase their chances of success. Many young artists can be forgotten or feel excluded and our project seeks to show they have an important future worth investing in. Despite the difficulties of lockdown, they have continued with their studying. However, many need that extra intervention, that fresh opportunity to thrive and go beyond the limits they feel. Not everyone has the skills for school learning and our creative sessions seek to cater for this. Youths will need to complete English GCSEs, learn how to work in a team and many will have ideas for businesses that should be supported. Our project will prepare them for the working world and catch them up on content lost because of lockdowns. During this time of suffering, young people feel neglected and we believe they are worth investing in.
