To transform the garden area at Lakeside mental health unit. It will be designed to encourage spending time outside, to promote a calm but more exciting atmosphere to socialize in the fresh air.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
I experienced living on a mental health ward for 3 months when I was just 19 years old. I know it can feel scary, clinical & impersonal for patients & the families sporting them. It is easy to become lethargic, depressed and uninterested in taking part in anything. There are many challenges these most vulnerable members of society are faced with. Being in an uninspiring hospital environment can make you feel all manor of negative emotions. Art has been an amazingly helpful tool for me on my journey of healing. Painted images can transform a space to maximize the calming impact on your state of mind. By making over the garden I will create an inviting space, aiming to encourage: Movement around the grounds Socializing Being outside Inspiration/hope/well being I am working with the hospital to agree the design of the mural, and make sure all health and safety regulations are covered. All backers will be kept updated.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Our most vulnerable members of society can face so many battles. I’ve been there and it really isn’t easy. They deserve all the help they can get. Being admitted to hospital can be a reoccurring pattern , it can be the beginning of a long road to gaining strength of mind . It can be the climax of struggling to cope alone for many years . What ever the stay in a mental hospital is , I think it’s important to make it as positive as possible. It is within my abilities to delivers this idea and make it a reality, because I really do care. I am passionate about helping others on their journey to healing and I am passionate about art. The impact of this project will be positive on many levels. Art does have a beneficial qualities for mental health and well being. I think people do need encouragement to get moving and spend time outside. Vitamin D naturally lifts our mood. With This garden Mural project I believe all this can be achieved and more.
