We would like to plant 1,000 new oak saplings around Havering - we would love more trees in Community spaces, schools, parks, local greens and of course nature reserves and country parks

Unfortunately 750,000 trees are going to be mulched at the end of September due to a back tracked promise from the Government. They had promised to encourage landowners to plant more trees and as such, tree nurseries responded by planting thousands of acorns. Now that promise hasn't been fulfilled, these oak saplings will be turned to mulch unless we can purchase them at a discounted price. We are looking to fund the purchase of 1,000 saplings (£350 with delivery) to be planted around our Borough, to help clean up our air and restore some of the trees that have been taken down. We have plenty of green spaces available, and plenty of pollution to get rid of! Please help us on our mission to keep Havering as green as possible

What we'll deliver:

  • Plant 1,000 trees within Havering
  • Work in partnership with green spaces

Why it's a great idea:

Planting 1,000 new trees within our Borough will have a hugely positive effect in Havering. Firstly, it will fill our Borough with places to encourage nature, and to encourage children to learn about the environment surrounding them. We all know every child loves a park and loves to be outside playing. The trees will also help take the carbon out from our polluted air, helping Havering residents to feel better. The trees will also encourage biodiversity wherever they are planted for our wildlife. They will give people a happy space and a shelter to do what makes them happy - yoga, reading, group exercises, seeing friends and having a picnic, the list is endless - we all know the benefits as we see them first hand with the trees that already exist here in Havering. We are lucky we still have green spaces, and we should continue to build on them, use them, and let them grow!

Steps to get it done:

  • Contacting relevant people for interest in planting the trees
  • Making sure that we have confirmed places to plant 1,000 trees
  • Purchasing 1000 trees
  • Receiving the delivery of the trees
  • Delivering trees to interested parties and getting the trees planted in the ground
