{{ 'About' | translate }} Community Crowdfunding Redbridge

Community Crowdfunding for Redbridge is a crowdfunding programme designed to be a positive springboard for a locally-led revival, where local groups come up with attractive project ideas to benefit the community, and generate financial and volunteer time support from residents, businesses and the council. The council has a fund to pledge towards local crowdfunding projects/campaigns through the Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (NCIL). This funding comes directly from developers who fund community projects in order to mitigate the impacts of development in the locality. The amount of development locally directly impacts the amount of funding available to pledge to projects. Groups can receive up to £10,000 per project.

After a very wet winter, parts of the ground need some attention. Once the works are complete the grass on the main ground will be stronger and ready for extensive use once lockdown is finished. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, we have had to close, any support members and the public can provide during this time would be a great help and would ensure that we can pay our bills and reopen as soon as is safe.

Our local streets are drab and lifeless, the developers' promises of implementing green spaces have been left unfulfilled. We want to introduce evergreen trees in XL pots, an initiative with compelling benefits: • Carbon Capture These trees will absorb carbon effectively capturing emissions from nearby vehicles, contributing to improved air quality, and combatting climate change. • Shading: Situated in a south-facing location, these trees will offer much-needed shade during hot summers, making our streets more inviting and comfortable for residents and visitors. • Rainwater : The mature evergreens will assist in rainwater runoff, reducing the risk of flooding and relieving pressure on our drainage systems. • Wildlife : By planting these trees, we'll create a haven for birds and insects, fostering biodiversity • Community Pride: It demonstrates our community's dedication to sustainability and the environment, bolstering our commitment to a greener future.

The aim of the project is to engage women who don't ordinarily engage in art and culture projects. MSA will provide access for women from the local community from diverse backgrounds to come together on walks at various parks around the borough, whilst teaching them how to utilize their cameras/devices to optimize getting the best photography shots. Through weekly art therapy, women will be encouraged to open up about issues held deep within themselves, expressing their thoughts through art, hopefully helping them to offload, which we have previously seen and know, has often been discouraged in some communities. At the end of the project we will deliver an exhibition to engage the wider community, motivating other women to engage in local arts & cultural initiatives. Through this project we will be mentoring women to increase their skills and enable them to open up and signposting them to other local organisations.

The Woodford Green Amenity Group has an historical reputation of providing floral displays, via hanging baskets which has drawn appreciation from the members of the public. For this coming year we would like to ensure the Broadway has both hanging baskets and flower troughs. The troughs would contain display cards including information on the various types of flowers in both the hanging baskets and troughs, explaining their importance in the overall environment. The display cards would be drafted so that children and adults together would be able to discuss the importance of flowers. Particular emphasis would be placed on the numerous bees species, all known to be under threat and other insects types that would be attracted to the flower pollen, with particular emphasis on their effect on the overall environment. Local school children would be invited down to help in the initial planting of the troughs and baskets.

Redbridge’s cat population is in crisis! Cats are abandoned for various reasons; housing issues, impulse buying, vet costs. Invariably they are unneutered, leading to continual breeding. Cruelty and suffering are prevalent across the borough, leading to ever more costs. Volunteers mainly meet costs from their own money, adoption fees and occasional public donations. Since May ‘23 we no longer receive free neutering for cats in our care; adding extra financial strain. Our vet costs to neuter 100 cats will now be £9500! To increase fostering capacity we will buy two outdoor pens (9'x4'x6'), providing accommodation to convalesce. We will enclose a volunteer’s own back garden with temporary netting for safety. Indoor fosterers are provided with a kit: cat pen, strong metal carrier, litter trays, food/water bowls, scratching post and monthly supplies of food and litter. The cost of each kit is £185 with recurring costs of food the longer a cat stays.
