A lack of affordable housing puts people at risk of homelessness and poverty. We want to bring decision makers together at an event to tackle this problem and find solutions.

There are over 27,000 households on housing waiting lists in Sussex and the amount of affordable housing, particularly social housing, is declining. We want everyone to be able to afford a home. Even some developments which are termed 'affordable' are out of the reach of many families. But there are solutions. We want to get the decision makers and land owners of Sussex together so that there can be a meaningful debate about how we can solve this crisis. We want to hold an affordable housing event in November in Arun District and the outcome will be an action plan to get more affordable housing built in Arun. We want this event to be free to all stakeholders and funding would enable us to hire a hall, market the event and provide basic refreshments.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
We want to bring together planners, councillors, housing professionals, housing associations, community groups including community land trusts and landowners to highlight solutions which are needed to create more affordable housing in Sussex. There are great examples of solutions in Sussex and across the UK which should be replicated and we want speakers to illustrate what the solutions are and create a plan for action. We we also want to understand what the barriers are to getting more affordable housing built so that we can campaign at a national level for policy changes. This project could make a huge difference to the thousands of people on housing waiting lists or sleeping rough.
