I plan to run a clothes repair workshop around different locations of the Hammersmith and Fulham borough, my objective is to teach people how to give new life to their clothes and stop fast fashion.

I run a business called La Modista which has worked with the local White City Community to raise awareness of how fast fashion is affecting our planet. I run workshops every week at Our Lady of Fatima Parish Community Centre where I have taught people how to repair their old clothes and convert their old clothes into new everyday useful items. My objective with this project is to run similar workshops around H&F borough in places such as libraries and community centres. During my repairing sessions I will teach attendees basic clothes repair and adjustments skills that they can use at home as well as how to use a standard sewing machine to do different techniques. Attendees will bring the clothes they want to fix to the workshops, I will provide all the materials to fix common clothes issues such as holes or a missing button and use my expertise to teach them. During the time I am teaching them the attendees will be free to socialise with each other.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
My repair clinic will bring a range of benefits to the community and anyone who attends them: my workshops will raise attention to the issue of fast fashion and will make people within the H&F community be more aware of their fashion choices; it will teach people sewing and clothes repair skills that they can use at their home to give new life to their own clothes which will help people save money and reduce waste. It may also lead to people discovering a new passion that they may have not been aware of before which they may want to put more time into by themselves. My repair clinic will help combat social isolation, giving both young and older generations a place where they can socialise and meet new people that they may have not otherwise talked to. It is also shown that teenagers who join extracurricular activities tend to show better performance at school and show lower delinquency.
