The current technology or point-of-care testing (POCT) makes it easily available to the masses to do in vivo investigation for blood and urine. By making the POCT equipment available in gyms and fitness centres, pharmacies or even in a small van, it would encourage people to regularly do their health checks and reflect on the time-line of their physical health, mental health and life-style wellbeing. Knowing that that many physical and mental health conditions are associated with vitamin, mineral deficiencies. This way before major health condition arises and the need to seek medical or mental health consultation, we could be saving many people and the NHS unnecessary costs and GP visits. This service could be sponsored by health organisations during different World-Days to raise awarness and reach out to the masses in local communities. So health check-ups and blood tests become not only for sick people but for all, all age groups and communities.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Health check-ups is readily available for suspected health conditions, however, it is usually inconvenient process for patients seeking blood tests in the NHS facilities. Plus the blood test results if it shows deficiencies of any sort except cancer, are not followed up. There are two main objectives from regular health check-ups: 1- Cultural change towards preventative proactive health care instead of reactive healthcare. To do regular health check ups, with advanced technology, treatments early diagnosis of any arising ailment would have less of impact on an individual life if the appropriate adjustment in diet, life-style are advised earlier. This will also impact on the healthcare system to reduce costs of healthcare if a major health condition that could become chronic condition with complications. 2- Monitoring of identified high-risk individuals through regular health check ups would also incentivise individuals to adjust their life-style and adhere to medication.
Steps to get it done:
I believe that healthy bodies and minds lead to healthy community relations and economies. Only healthy enough bodies and minds can seek education, knowledge is power which opens better employment opportunities. Data generated from health check-ups could help our research communities too if made anonymised securely available. To advance our knowledge and clinical intervention.
