The project is to purchase and install two circular steel picnic benches. They will be placed in an area which is part of the riverside walk in Milnsbridge. The original benches (made from a plastic-like resin) were vandalised by being set on fire. The group have now obtained quotes for metal picnic benches which are far more vandal-proof. The benches will be located with a 'Social Distance' provided between them, so that two groups can enjoy the surroundings. The location is a leafy spot adjacent to the steps leading down from Britannia Road to the small weir on the River Colne, which then connects via the footpath to River Street, Milnsbridge. Milnsbridge Enhancement Group created the walk and in 2018 we rebuilt the steps down to the weir. The group maintain the riverside walk by picking up litter and clearing it of excess vegetation in the summertime. The picnic benches will improve this green space for the benefit of the whole community as the lockdown eases.

What we'll deliver:

  • We will purchase and install the picnic benches
  • Maintain the benches, the steps and the riverside walk

Why it's a great idea:

The picnic benches will provide a stopping off point for families and walkers who use the footpath where they may sit, talk and eat, or to have a drink. It will enhance the area for the benefit of the whole community .

Steps to get it done:

  • Order and receive picnic benches
  • Installation
  • Community launch event
