Migrateful is excited to be moving into The 3 Corners Centre in Clerkenwell! We need your support to transform the space into a cookery school, professional kitchen and dining space - a real long term home. Since 2017, Migrateful has been supporting refugees, asylum seekers and migrants to share their traditional cuisines with the public, training them to become professional cookery class teachers as a way to access employment and integration in the UK. We are a bridge between different cultures, building stronger and more united communities, through the universal love of food. From the beginning we have been delivering our classes in different venues across London. We have learnt a lot about what works in a venue and what we need, but it has been very logistically challenging. Now it is time to put down roots and provide a sense of continuity for our chefs; a place that we can all grow into. A place full of personality, people, community spirit, and of course, delicious food!

What we'll deliver:

  • Transform an underused space in The 3 Corners Centre into a cookery school for chef training, cookery classes and events
  • Install a fully equipped kitchen for catering events and feeding the community initiatives
  • Provide 10 cooking stations for classes of up to 20 participants
  • Create a beautiful dining space with a banquet table where people come together to share food, stories and experiences

Why it's a great idea:

The cookery school will allow us to run chef training programmes for refugees, asylum seekers & migrants. Many of the chefs we work with struggle to access employment due to legal and linguistic barriers. Our training programme takes them from talented home cook to professional cookery class teachers and includes English language and wellbeing sessions. Our chefs then run cookery classes for the public, promoting community cohesion, cultural exchange and healthy eating habits. The commercial kitchen will allow our chefs to run catering events, such as our Distanced Dinners which delivers three course meals to local customers, giving them the opportunity to try cuisines from all over the world. They are delivered locally by volunteers on bicycles, allowing them to meet new people, get fit and support a good cause. Our chefs would also use the kitchen to cater hundreds of free meals for the local community, feeding the families of schoolchildren who receive free school meal vouchers.

Steps to get it done:

  • Work with architect and Migrateful chefs to finalise cookery school designs
  • Instruct joiner to build kitchen and workstations
  • Stripping out, removing existing doors, filling in and installing new doors
  • Extraction system install
  • First fix electrics and plumbing
  • Prepare and finish wall and ceiling surfaces
  • Second fix electrics and plumbing
  • Install complete kitchen and workstations
  • Install dining table, final decorations and shelving
