Paul Bowness Memorial garden was build around 2008 by Wandle Heritage. At that time it was great place for community to have lunch or just sit by the river. However over pas 10 years Garden is not well maintained is a neglected and subsequently overgrown. We would love to make this garden back again to its good days when you can enjoy the view and rest. The garden is comprised of three main areas: 1. A large irregular quarry-paved section bounded by brick and wooden walls that also serve as seating. 2.A gently-sloping grassed area running alongside the river. 3.A woodland area occupying the north-eastern area. We would like to grow the herb, berry, flower sensorial garden. Having open book swap library, building fence next to the river for heath and safety of the children. We will make mosaic made out of broken china. Bee water drinking area, bug hotel and bird feeders, that would be made by children. All things will done from donated second hand goods to encourage up-cycling.

What we'll deliver:

  • Sensory bed
  • Wildflower area
  • Ornamental grasses
  • Screening/antipollution plants
  • Seating area
  • Fence
  • Library
  • Information board
  • fairy land
  • Composter

Why it's a great idea:

The garden will bring community together were people and families with children will have opportunity to discover sensorial garden, enjoy the riverside, and to participate in creating the garden. Also will be informed about history of Abbey Mills and William Morris and Liberty. Encourage people and children to read and swap books and will do free story tellings for children exploring nature and grow imagination with fairy land. Local artist can exhibit they work. We also will publish a book about this garden and Wandle river wild life and how look after the nature clean and stop littering and up-cycle what you can.

Steps to get it done:

  • we will buy plants and making plant beds
  • put fence
  • create sculptures
  • open for community for events
