I am an Aylesburian philosopher, writer and artist, as well as a bartender, gardener and activist (with an LLB) looking to gain funding in order to set up a Community Interest Company (not-for-profit). My intentions are to create it by guarantee so no dividends are intended to be dished out. The project is to buy out the Green Man Pub, an historical venue based in an historical market square in the left behind County town of Aylesbury Buckinghamshire. David Bowie mentions it in the first line of the album Ziggy Stardust. The idea that Aylesbury has been left behind may sound outlandish to most, and you would be right in thinking so for Buckinghamshire is one of the richest Counties in the UK. Yet, its material wealth is contrasted by a depleted cultural richness. Consequently, the town is somewhat lacking in community spirit, despite being a lovely place I’m sure to retire. My aim is to bring some energy back to the town, revitalise it and make it a nicer place for one and all.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The Green Man pub is the location of what used to be the Friars club, which hosted legendary artists such as David Bowie, the Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix to name but a few. The aim would be to buy the pub, restore it and give it back to the community so that Aylesburians far and wide can enjoy it. I would change the name back to the Friars club. The pub cost £250,000 in 2019 and I reckon an extra £100,000 minimum would cover all starting up costs: refurbishment being the main one. This won’t be easy. Yet, if we do not stand up together, someone or something will inevitably demolish the building and turn it into yet more housing. Let’s try and put a stop to that, please. Thank you for your precious time.
