We are looking to start affordable English tutoring and functional skills courses with both online and onsite options as well as classes for home educated children

We want to provide English and functional skills onsite and distance learning courses for non-native speakers in our community. There are many people in our diverse borough who cannot physically be present at classes, but want to learn and develop their skills and work towards employment or higher education. There are also many who lack the tools and abilities to join regular courses (such as computer and internet access). We also want to offer courses on different subjects for home educated students. Redbridge has a large home educator community, but many of the courses now available are expensive or organised far so people have to travel to other boroughs. There are no community spaces for home education that Redbridge supports, as a council.

What we'll deliver:

  • Provide accessible English teaching
  • Provide accessible functional skills teaching
  • Provide services for home educating families

Why it's a great idea:

Our project will enable more people to gain the necessary skills for getting into higher education and employment. It will also help home educated children, foster a sense of community and provide easy to access and affordable help eg. for GCSE and other exams.

Steps to get it done:

  • Gather funds to renovate and update the center to be more suitable
  • Hire expert teachers that can help teaching courses
  • Buy IT equipment, such as computers, to enable eg. coding classes
  • Advertise courses
