In order to improve lives of disadvantaged young people, we offer variety of learning programs leading to qualifications / vocational skills. We currently do not have library and it is becoming more apparent that this is a vital addition required to enable us to continue offering beneficiaries an optimum learning environment to reach maximum attainment /retention of learning, so they can move on to further education, training and employment successfully. We require funding to enable us to set up a new library. This includes: Resources including books, CDs, Magazine / newspaper subscriptions, computers. Furniture including bookcases, trolleys, tables & chairs, tub chairs / beanbags, photocopier. Management Furniture including Librarian's desk, chair and computer and software, filing cabinet. Management Materials including stationary, repair materials, Minor Capital Items such as cushions, signs, a laminator and barcode scanner.

Why it's a great idea:

We currently do not have own library therefore limited in how much self-learning /research we can expect beneficiaries to do. Monitoring / evaluation of projects indicated that this inhibits level of attainment / retention during educational / vocational courses, as well level of impact of extracurricular / personal development courses. By setting up library, we will be able to incorporate more assignments into courses, where participants expected to conduct own research. This will raise level of learning / achieving. Beneficiaries will be able to use library to boost learning and support them in educational /vocational courses. It also provide a quiet supportive venue where can study, further boosting attainment / retention. This will greatly raise quality of learning and impact of learning courses. Setting up a library will benefit beneficiaries for years to come and improve our organisation's capacity for providing learning opportunities for disadvantaged young people.

Steps to get it done:

• buying the furniture and resources
• working together with beneficiaries to set up the library once we have everythng
• Appointing young people to run the library and explaining beneficiaries how the library will work
• opening up the library for the local community to use

Our organisation's aim is to improve the lives of socially and economically disadvantaged young people, primarily through offering learning opportunities that will lead to qualifications and personal improvement, thereby breaking down their barriers to further education and employment opportunities. Our monitoring and evaluation have indicated that by setting up a library, learning will be greatly enhance, increasing the attainment and retention during learning courses. This will greatly increase the impact and outcomes of the courses we offer, by enabling participants to improve their learning outcomes and have better educational and employment opportunities. The library will also contribute to our organisation's sustainability because as times progress, examination and course requirements include more self-research and with modernisation, it is becoming less feasible to high-quality educational courses without offering the use of a library.
