Leyton Community gardening club is a local, activity-based gardening club based in the Leyton Sports Play Area, E10. 30 volunteers of all ages have been gardening in the park for the past 2 years, growing fruit and vegetables, tending the raised beds, and planting fruit trees and spring bulbs. We have recently been offered a large piece of waste ground by the council in which to expand our garden. We would like to expand our garden, continuing to grow fruit and vegetables, and also build a structure on this land. We would like to build a polytunnel to help us grow more produce, and also a space in which we can run gardening and crafts sessions for local groups. We have already raised some money and begun to develop this space (which will be called the 'Leyton Boundary Garden', reflecting the cricketing heritage of the site). But we need funds to complete this work and provide more opportunities for local residents.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Leyton Community Gardening club is a thriving and successful community group. For the past two years we have been organising weekly gardening sessions in our local park. We have recently been given an opportunity to expand our activities and develop a new site, which will be called the Leyton Boundary Garden. In the boundary garden we will grow fruit and veg to supply local residents and volunteers with fresh and healthy food. We will also develop links with local restaurants. Many of our members have skills which we will use to offer a range of free activities in the new garden. We want to provide gardening sessions for older local residents, make links with local schools, and also plant a 'dye garden' to grow plants to use in natural dye workshops, which will be led by local artists. We have a fine site, grand plans, and enthusiastic volunteers. Now we need money to realise our vision!
