We have a collection of classical guitars and a whole lot of enthusiasm and passion for the instrument. Just 5 minutes is all we need, to teach people a touch of flamenco. The hope is through sharing our knowledge and love of the guitar - we can give people space and time to develop their own love of the instrument - be that for mental wellbeing, pleasure or profession. We're partnered with organisations who can help fund lessions and guitars for individuals who may not be able to afford to purchase their own guitar. We've proven track record in creating lively, welcoming, warm and exciting workshops - with a very relaxed accessible atmosphere. We've delivered our sessions in carparks, libraries, allotments and boats! We can pop up our flamenco sessions in any Lancashire setting, and always attract a great crowd! Flamenco brings people together - yet the conversations lead to so much more. Multicultural jams with our East Lancashire communities and gentle chats about life's challenges.

What we'll deliver:

  • 5 x Flamenco in 5 sessions
  • Guitars for all ages and abilities - left and right handed
  • You'll also hear a world class guitarist playing a micro-recital

Why it's a great idea:

Hundreds of people have commented; in these times of national crisis - "it's so nice to switch off for an hour." Now, more than ever, we are wanting ways to creatively understand our world. Our project combines the best of new collaborations to make this happen including International Artist Heather Morison (owner of the floating library), Super Slow Way, along with Lancashire Libraries, Music For All, PRS & us - we know how signposting cultural opportunities effectively & inclusively - is essential to improving physical & mental wellbeing for diverse communities. We deliver our Library Partner's Universal Offers (reading, health/wellbeing, digital/information & culture/creativity) by tapping into existing structures efficiently - presenting our events in the library network; we refer people to library resources (sheet music/digital platforms/groups), we experience the health benefits of a safe friendly space & we include everyone digitally too.

Steps to get it done:

  • Booking the first event at a Lancashire Library in East Lancashire

Our project is a catalyst to creativity for all age groups, abilities & backgrounds. With my working class background I've been locked out of opportunities myself & after years of research & steering from industry professionals (this time Heather Peak Morison & Boff Whalley)- I see the project as an effective way to excite, inspire & innovate opportunities for a more creative & cultural country. It's an accessible, cheap way in. From the one to one workshop sessions, to the formal concerts or experiencing a micro-recital on our floating library - I have a platform to steer people to the wealth of opportunities available both charitable & commercial. Collaborations with charitable & restorative organisations (Super Small Mays and MFA) - to buy & now repair instruments for those struggling. Signposting diverse talent to commercial organisations (Sentric Music, Chris Difford & Taxi) enabling songwriters to flourish.
