Kingston Green Radio is a community radio station that values the integration of people, culture and the environment. KGR provides a project for individuals and groups to network, gain skills, knowledge, and confidence. It is available live via the internet and through mixcloud for a listen again service. The studio is based in Kingston Environment Centre, New Malden. We hope to create a schedule of eco conscious programs and entertainment that can go live from the studio on FM and internet radio for 2 weeks. The live show project will be available for all to take part. The FM live project will bring together a wide variety of people such as artists, disability groups, women's groups, musicians, MP's, school groups, first time performers, local people, environmental activists, business owners and much more.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
KGR is open to everyone and connects people, community projects like this are much needed at the moment to allow community cohesion and to increase understanding of eachother and current issues of importance. This diverse program of live and prerecorded shows can be shared throughout Kingston via FM radio and to wider communities via the internet. We have previously run live shows on FM and had great success with forming new networks locally and further a field. In past years we have aired things such as interviews and debates covering environmental and community issues, new artists sharing their music and stories. This media voice provides opportunities for groups and individuals to gain confidence and skills while making new connections. These are just some of the amazing benefits of community radio. With funding, we would be able to organise an outstanding live show project, building on our current contacts and knowledge and providing an excellent resource for the community.
Steps to get it done:
We have already received funding from LUSH charity pot to pay for the most expensive license required to go live on FM. We have a team of radio staff ready to go and many shows lined up. Our current connections are keen to start work on the live shows and we are keen to provide opportunities for many more. All we need now is a bit more funding to pay for the costs of going live on FM and we are in action.
