• Our aim is to deliver a mix of good food provision and enrichment opportunities outside the busy school calendar year, not only will this help alleviate hunger to the most needy but also it can support working parents and those struggling with family food budgets in pressured holiday periods. It can also raise children's aspirations, offer safety and give opportunities for fun and socialising. • We at Coverdale & Newbank Community Association believe that to continue the Kids MealBox Project within Coverdale & Newbank Community will offer a crucial part of the solution to tackling non-term time child hunger. What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Poverty is a growing concern across the sector and members are delivering a number of initiatives to mitigate the impact of poverty amongst their tenants and communities. The issue of food poverty is often exacerbated for families over the school holidays, when free school meals are not available. For many children that source of food that they rely heavily on is closed, which can have a number of implications on the child and their families. The project will run Monday to Friday every week during out of school term holidays. We will provide 4 lunch box meals and 1 warm meal every week. The Lunch Box Meals will consist of a sandwich, yogurt, 2x fruit, biscuit and a drink. The warm meal will consist of beans / cheese on toast, jacket potatoes various fillings, hot dogs, a desert and a drink. Various activities will be run to meet our diverse community children and parents needs.
Steps to get it done:
We will be able to help many members of our community. Poverty / Families on Low Income / Social isolation/ Family stress/ Promote interaction - Reading, Activity, Leisure promote wellbeing.
