Greenwich has been selected as a UK Urban Pilot for the introduction of driverless cars. Driverless cars have the potential to change the built environment and change the relationship between the city and the car and, significantly, the pedestrian and the car. There are fundamental issues about the shift in power and how pedestrian’s perceptions of vehicles will change if all cars are autonomous.

Greenwich is one of the UK leaders in smart city innovation. Greenwich Peninsula is one of a number of major sites that form part of the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s regeneration and smart city strategy. The driverless car project is a key part of this.
