The project would be to work with an established artist, who would engage with young people in Harwich. Harwich is an area of high deprivation and services and support for young people is very limited. The area has its very own history and culture, and it would be to capture the thoughts of young people who live in an area that has limited transport and connection links. The idea would be to capture their hopes and aspirations and encapsulate this into a piece of art-a mural within the centre, those using the centre will be aware of the mind-set and aspirations of young people in the area. We would glean learning to further develop services in the area for young people and to start a pathway to improve their life conditions, aspirations and environment

• To work with disengaged young people and to give them pride in their area and their work

Why it's a great idea:

Harwich is an area of high employment and low aspiration, with an environment within the main centre that does not inspire or engage people. Young people in Harwich are often forgotten in service development, or exist with a host of statutory sector services and few opportunities to experience something unique and to create something of their own. Travel to art projects is expensive and motivation and inspiration is often lacking- this would be a golden opportunity to build a bigger picture for our youth-literally!
