What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Inky Cuttlefish Studios has been a tenant of the Waltham Forest Business Centre, 5 Blackhorse Lane, Walthamstow since 2007. The site that the studios are currently located is earmarked to be developed into residential and commercial properties, with work scheduled to begin in 2015. Blackhorse Lane will become a new 'Housing Zone', and is the largest regeneration site in the borough with over £200 million investment from developers..As part of the council's commitment to relocate existing tenants - and as a small creative business that operates within the community, a part of the lower ground floor of the new community arts centre has been offered to Inky Cuttlefish Studios in the building next door 7 Blackhorse Lane. The space that we are moving into will be an empty shell and we need to be operational from the moment we move in.Gnome House CIC has committed to pay to move the printmaking presses and equipment to the new premises and do very basic fit out.
Steps to get it done:
In funding Inky Cuttlefish Studios, the High Street Fund will be fulfilling the following objectives:
-Enterprise and business support, skills and employment and community by assisting businesses to overcome barriers to strong performance, attract further businesses to the area, improve residents' employment opportunities
-Transformational impacts to deliver a step change in long term direction of travel, decrease in deprivation, improvement in individual’s' life chances, change of use in space.
-Strategic influence and partnerships
Inky Cuttlefish Studios will be an important part of creating a vibrant, attractive new community centre that underpins the growth of Blackhorse Lane. In funding a fit out of the new space, the High Street Fund will be helping to nurture a local creative business that enhances civic life and ensure that they have the necessary facilities and capacity for real long-term change in Blackhorse Lane.
