We want to improve access and facilities for disabled people at Kineton Sports and Social Club which is open to all.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
We want to improve access and facilities for disabled people. The main club building was constructed in the 1970's when this was not a priority. Wheelchair access to the building is difficult and our toilet facilities are totally inaccessible to wheelchairs. This is unacceptable in the present day. In order to provide a disabled toilet significant building work is required to re-model the access corridor and the toilets themselves In addition we would like to build a patio at the front of the building to replace a sloping grass and concrete area. This would provide a flat entry route for and would also improve child safety as at present people have to cross a car park to go from the clubhouse to an external seating area in Summer. That seating area would be moved to the patio adjacent to the clubhouse. We also intend to install bike racks in this area to encourage people to cycle to the club and to promote our cycling section.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Kineton is a rural community in South Warwickshire. The housing stock varies hugely from large, high value homes to ex council estates and social housing flats and this is reflected in the community that the club serves. This community is very poorly served by disabled facilities and this is something we want to improve. By improving access to the club for mobility impaired and wheelchair users we can extend the use of the club and facilities to a significant disadvantaged group. This would enable participation in club activities such as bowls, skittles, table tennis, film club, gardening club, whist, crib, darts, etc. It would also facilitate attendance at major events such as Kineton Music Festival and Classic car and Bike evenings. The project will turn us into a more inclusive community.
Steps to get it done:
We have worked with Sport England and their Accessibility consultants on the scope of the project which now includes:- • Larger accessible toilet with baby change facilities • Ambulant disabled cubicles • Widening doors within the clubhouse • A platform lift for access from the lobby to our event/sports hall • Reworking external access to provide easy wheelchair access, level viewing area, disabled parking spaces and emergency exit routes We went to tender and have three quotes from reputable local companies. The tender spread was less than £8,000 with the best offer being £144,793 including 10% contingency. Sport England will give us £75,000 and we have £26,000 so we currently have a shortfall of up to £43,000. We need to close this gap to enable the project to take place.
