We run a small alternative provision in the open arms centre in the Colshaw Estate in Wilmslow. Over 12-15 hours learners will gain the knowledge and skills to assist in leading basic sports/activities under direct supervision. The transferable skills can be used to help young people better engage socially and within education by developing confidence and skills such as organisation and communication. I Can Lead uses sport and physical activity to help learners develop key leadership skills and increase academic performance. The award focuses on personal development and not just sporting ability. It boosts academic performance and helps learners become more community-minded through volunteering opportunities and culminates in an award that will be recognised on our students' CVs.

Why it's a great idea:

This will benefit the young people as they will develop or build upon existing leadership qualities Will teach young people communication and organisational skills which are key in life post 16 Develop social skills that so many young people currently lack due to COVID and other social factors Give young people the confidence to use these skills with their peers, family and in wider community This will be a building block to a young person going on to be a well rounded and positive member of the community
