The project will involve young people aged 8yrs to 18yrs, to encourage social equality, bringing together young people from all backgrounds and cultures to encourage social cohesion. To create murals on shop shutters in our community which will make them proud of their surroundings, encourage positivity in the creation of the artwork. Create positive messages and encourage the young people to have ownership of this project, to empower them and create new friendships and positive energy within the making of this artwork as well as giving a legacy to the work all the young people create in their local area. Showing creativity in the arts gives it a vibe of how Camden as a Borough brings together young people in all cultures giving the project a sense of equality and respect within this community. With the ramifications of COVID stretching far and wide across our communities, there has never been a more urgent time to help young people connect to encourage resilience and community spirit

What we'll deliver:

• We will create artwork with young people and local businesses building community communication
• Working with young people giving them skills in the arts
• Working with local graffiti artist Sam Sure who designs artwork already on buildings in Camden
• Innovating local businesses and young people by creating the ideas together for each shutter

Why it's a great idea:

Gospel Oak is a location at the heart of Camden. New developments and regeneration projects - Bacton/Cherry Court, the LSoM undercroft redevelopment, and the Wendling estate, which is also earmarked for potential regeneration. Creating street artwork in this area would help to create a common feeling of place and community ownership during times of change, and add to the culture & appeal of the area. It will encourage young people and local businesses to work together, bringing with it a sense of understanding and how local communities can work together, to encourage local children and youth to become united in all cultures. Collaboration is essential in understanding each other' ideas and diversity. Already we have worked on many street art projects in these areas, and it is proving to be one of our most progressive, successful projects to date. We want to ensure more young people and local businesses have this opportunity to explore this project to become involved

Steps to get it done:

• We will ensure all canvas (ie walls, shutters, bridges) are primed
• We will need to order the correct paint for the correct surface
• We will ensure safety is adhered to at all times with using masks, gloves and hazmat suits
• If weather does not allow on the day we will ensure to plan for the following available date to deliver each mural.
• We will ensure the surfaces are cleaned and prepped before applying paint.
• To make sure all young people /staff and volunteers on the project are fed healthy lunches and drinks each day.
• To commit to providing artwork that resonates with the area, with the young people and the businesses /council /owner

We are planning to create an artwork mural on the shop shutters along Malden Road and Mansfield Road.
