Holt pre-school is in need of a new building as the current dilapidated building has reached the end of its life. The project is in Holt (Wiltshire) in a rural community and on a Primary School site ( leased). The new building will aim to be zero carbon, zero energy and a passivhaus compliant structure with inclusion of biodiversity into the grounds and the building itself all with the aim of ‘education’ about the climate and ecological emergency. The building will be a community backed project ( not for profit ) . The building will create many opportunities for the pre-school to extend opening hours, out of term clubs, community use, training and volunteering opportunities. It has strong support in the community and £155,000 has been raised so far. If the remaining £50,000 cannot be raised then the pre-school will close.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
This isn’t just a new building. It's a safe, sustainable space for young children to learn and develop, become an integrated part of the community and thrive. It will enable parents to go to work because without the preschool and lack of transport, it will be difficult for parents to remain in work or find another pre-school (many others are full) It’s an eco-friendly space with biodiversity to raise awareness of the climate emergency, teaching the children and community about the little changes that we can all make It will engage the community through popular pre-school events, singing at the Luncheon Club, Christmas carols, the nativity play, egg rolling, raffles, fundraising events, chances to volunteer and share experiences, wish days, village walks or a smile or wave on the way to the pre-school. It will creates jobs and opportunities for the community through work experience or volunteering, supporting Duke of Edinburgh students or those who want work experience.
