Heritage Village Orchard

Heritage Village Orchard

Emma Tabor By Emma Tabor

As a resident in Heritage Village, I want to set up an open orchard, for all of our residents and more to harvest their own free fruit from. Funds will be used to buy trees to get the project started

The dream is to turn our local park away from a dog only space, into more of a family space, by providing free fruit to anyone who comes into our local park. So for part of the year, people don't have to get into a supermarket for fruit, they can come into our park and get those varieties of apple, pear, mullberries, cherries and so forth from our park. The hope is for the park to become more productive and busy, providing free fruits. This then encourages families to get out of their homes and to go for a walk into their local park. The idea is to create QR codes that get added to the trees to our free website, so people and scan the QR code, and be taken directly to that fruits page, with recipes submitted by local members, be it for sauces, pies, alcohol or wines that they make using our free fruit.

What we'll deliver:

  • Planting trees

Why it's a great idea:

Who does not love free fruit! The project to to give our local people free fruit when it harvests, free apples to eat, pears to eat, mullberries (which is a dying fruit), something for the local community to learn about, with an online website they can look to for ideas. It will also encourage more people to use our parks and to get out of their houses.

Steps to get it done:

  • Buying the fruit trees
  • Planting the fruit trees
  • Trees planted for 1 year, celebration
