We have a wall in The Art Retreat that if wasn't there - would make our studio bigger! Without it, we can make workstations for 5 another people to come and join our workshops. Reaching more people.

It's a fake wall which serves no purpose now. Once upon a time, it separated (what was) the kitchen to the sitting room. Right now, we can fit 8 people into our workshops, without the wall there, we would be able fit in 12 or even 13, a huge difference. It's horrible to turn people down for workshops, with your help, we can make room for more.

Why it's a great idea:
We can almost double our workspace and make our beautiful studio even more beautiful. The Art Retreat is a gorgeous lodge cottage which offers a space in which people can not only engage in something creative, they can be together in our inspiring studio. We welcome all levels of artist and this summer we are running our first summer programme of events, most of which are NotForProfit. In the autumn we are planning to turn The Art Retreat into either a Social Enterprise or a CIC because our community is at the heart of all our offerings.

VolunteerHi. I am Samantha Barnes, Artist and business owner of The Art Retreat in Woodbridge, Suffolk. I've been a practising artist for over 20 years now and continue to make my work alongside running a busy studio which runs art workshops and community art events.
I am a family girl and a dog owner of 1 x dog that really should be better behaved. I am a big believer in the benefits of doing something - anything - creative.
My own work is primarily drawing, printmaking and painting and you can see my portfolio on my website.
