Havering Occupational Therapy Hub is a service that is set up to provide a variety of highly specialised occupational therapy services for children, young people, adults and their families/carers within Havering and any other boroughs that require these services. We would like d work collaboratively with our Local Authority and NHS as well as other providers to support them get through their backlog of OT referrals, support inclusion in education settings at all levels and support our local community as a whole to help eliminate the stigma associate with mental illness.
Our aim is to provide holistic and nurturing occupational therapy interventions and assessments in order to facilitate, enable and maximise independence in ‘Activities of Daily living’ as well as empower the individuals to develop own occupational identity through meaningful roles in a variety of settings within their close social circle and the wider community.
As mental health is now at the forefront of society, our aim is to empower and enable individuals with mental health difficulties develop and resilience with their normal daily lives. Mental health is no longer a shy away topic. We believe that people with social, emotional, and mental health needs will have the ability to visit a service without being labelled. This service will give them the strength, resilience and confidence to start their recovery journey that is personal, challenging for all parties involved, purposeful and dynamic. The goal is to improve mental health and wellbeing through enabling participation in occupation and regaining self- confidence, self- worth and self- empowerment in an environment that is safe, honest and personal.
Occupational Therapy in Mental Health is one of the most cost-effective professions because it speeds up recovery and enables the individual to maximise their independence regardless of their difficulties. If used appropriately and effectively Occupational Therapy can offer a space to regain skills and improve functioning well before the individual needs to be hospitalised. We aim to intervene and support well before a system reaches crisis point i.e. family, personal and community.
