To fund the installation of a new fibre cable to bring fast broadband and internet services to our Hampton Court community.
Nearly all local homes and businesses suffer with poor broadband and internet speeds and, for some, there is often no service at all at certain times of day. The current old copper cabling (to our telecoms street cabinet) was originally installed to provide a telephone service only and it is incapable of carrying the quantity of data we now need to access our emails, documents, graphics, music, video and catch-up television online. Openreach and other infrastructure providers have no plans to install a new fibre cable because they say it is not economically viable, as we are such a small community with only a few local businesses. The cost of a new fibre cable will be £12,174 and as long as we can raise half this amount between us amounting to just £6,087, we have been promised matched funding for the other half of the cost from the Community Fibre Partnerships Grant Scheme.

The availability of fibre cable will enable us to sign up to fast broadband with our chosen telecoms provider. The fast internet speeds will allow us to use online services effectively and without interruption.
Steps to get it done:
With more and more people working from home and children needing to carry out homework and research online fast broadband is essential.

VolunteerThe Hampton Court Community - residents, businesses and other local organisations - are disadvantaged by not having adequate internet and broadband speeds.
The solution is to install a new fibre cable from the telephone exchange to our local telecoms street cabinet on the pavement next to the entrance to Bushy Park.
Because we a small community and a long way from the Teddington telephone exchange, it is not economic for Openreach to install a fibre cable for us and they have no future plans to do so.
However, if we pay for the cost of installation by contributions from among ourselves, Openreach will lay a new cable under the Community Fibre Partnership Scheme and will maintain it for our benefit thereafter.
Tim Blair who lives at Tiltyard Cottage in Hampton Court Road is championing this project and has been working with Openreach for a solution. The cost of the installation will be £12,174. However, we only need to raise half of the money needed amounting to £6,087, as a matched funding grant has been secured which will pay for the balance.
An order has been placed with Openreach and it now all depends on our community pulling together and raising the balance.
This Project is to explain what is happening here and to engage everyone in our small local community to raise the sum needed for a new fibre cable.
Once the project is fully funded, we will be able to schedule the installation of the new fibre cable by Openreach and start to enjoy fast and responsive online services in the way they should be received.
