The underpass is currently dimly lit, neglected and blighted by problems with fly-tipping, littering and anti-social behaviour. Local people avoid using it despite it being a great pedestrian cut through to and fro Myatts Fields park. We want to change this by redesigning the space, creating a green safe pathway for local people to use and feel proud of.

What we'll deliver:

• Create a food growing area with watering point for local people to grow fruit and vegetables
• Install additional lighting to ensure the underpass remains fully lit and thereby most importantly safe
• Install free standing planters to run the whole length of the underpass stuffed with aromatic herbs and plants
• Install recycling waste-bins as well as repairing and securing the existing bin storage cupboards
• Remove the concrete bollards at the entrances to the underpass and replace with green structures
• Create a road name for the Green Corridor
• Create new, properly delineated bedding areas to grow flowers and shrubs and attract wildlife
• Work with a public space design service to creatively reconfigure the layout of the underpass

Why it's a great idea:

This project will have an enormous impact on the local area. It will create a positive and healthy environment with great social and physical benefits as well as bringing the community together building connections in a creative way.

Steps to get it done:

• As a community we will work together to clear rubbish, build and fill planters
• Contract specialist services to fix cupboards, install a water system, remove bollards and level the road surface
• Secure wood for planters from Whitton Timbers
• Solicit ideas for the road name and work with a local artist in its creation
