After 20 years of serving it’s community, offering free rehearsal space and affordable dance classes, The Gurney Road studio is in desperate need of repair to continue doing it's amazing work. The studio has been home to some of the most iconic dancers and companies the UK has to offer. It's strength lays in it's ability to attract raw passion and talent and give it direction and opportunity creating future artistic leaders and innovators. Such an accessible and welcoming resource is, though extremely important, a rare find. We want to renovate the building and transform it's layout to optimise it's potential, providing a creative home to as many people as possible. Through local partnerships we want to create a program of inclusive events and opportunities to make the space and it's artists sustainable. We also welcome anyone who can donate their time, skills or equipment to realise this transformation.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The Studio on Gurney road has been at the heart of UK streetdance for years. Nurturing creatives like Rain Crew from their first steps in dance to realising their creative dreams; whether headlining shows across the globe or delivering projects for the local community. The studio is a core piece of UK Streetdance history and home to some of the best B-Boys and hip-hop dancers in the world. As an integral part of the community the Gurney road studio offers a rare space that invites everyone to collaborate, create, and pass on knowledge for others to be empowered to do the same. Without the studio on gurney road, we lose an important part of UK dance history and the opportunity to continue building a legacy through a new wave of creative talent.
