Grow:Store will instantly create a community enhancing space for all.
We seek support to build two portable gardens and a business unit with a biodiverse green roof. These elements will be lifted directly into place and can be easily transported to new locations. They will be the centre-piece of the space, which also features astro-turfed areas and a boules pitch to picnic at and enjoy a game.
The business unit - a converted 10’ x 8’ shipping container, supplies an affordable workspace for ‘everyday’ small businesses. The lush portable gardens featuring edibles, have integrated seating and provide a lovely spot to have your lunch.
The gardens and business unit sit beside a paved square where events will be held throughout the month of June to coincide with The London Festival of Architecture.
What makes Grow:Store unique, is that it can be moved to a new location at any time, distributing its benefits to the wider community.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
By acting as a catalyst, 'Grow:_' offers a solution for underused / unloved public spaces. The aim is to reinvigorate our high streets and animate ‘meanwhile’ sites.
‘Grow:_’ equips small businesses with accessible and low cost units that can provide everyday services. The portable gardens and business units can be configured to suit any given space and communities needs. Their sustainability creates a lasting legacy.
The idea is that the businesses act as caretakers of the space, whilst in turn, offering a place for a community to congregate, garden and play together. In essence, they become urban village greens, creating landmarks and neighbourhood pride.
Steps to get it done:
We are looking forward to presenting, in conjunction, with New London Architecture (NLA), a series of soapbox lunch time talks throughout June, which will have the theme of 'Community'. A variety of speakers will explore the topic finishing with Q&A sessions. For more information please refer to the NLA website.
Grow:Store is also receiving in-kind support from Frosts Landscaping, Marshalls, and has the support of the London Borough of Camden and The Building Centre.
