GreenFest is an event to bring the community together to share information and knowledge on how to reduce our carbon footprint, improve our environmental impact and share what we can do and learn with each other so we can take our individual and collective steps forward. It is an opportunity individuals, companies and organisations to come together to explore resources and see how we can inform and empower each other to improve our ecological footprint in this time of urgency. Building on the knowledge and experience we have in our midst, this is a fair to welcome the community to meet with keyholders and stakeholders, to get people past the glass doors of organisations and companies that might be able to help; to enable local businesses and industries to showcase and explain how they are adapting to the urgency of our climate, ecological and pandemic crises and for all to learn from each other. It presents a learning opportunity and a chance to meet. https://youtu.be/4uOLcYCa1is
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
To people: Meeting with those who can show how to reduce your carbon footprint and access to the practical resources available. Information and "someone to talk to" about questions and where to start or access resources. Marketplace for sustainable products and introduction to suppliers. To providers: An opportunity to come into the community and directly engage with the target audience. Breaking down the barriers of accessibility. An opportunity to showcase best practice, current offerings, recruit support. A chance to learn from the community and improve the offering through engagement. Access to an underrepresented demographic. Businesses that are looking to improve their engagement or widen their diversity can use it as an opportunity to come into the community and explain how they can be accessed through non-standard channels. Because this is a hybrid event, participants will be able to come back and access the information and content after the event, increasing reach.
Steps to get it done:
Many businesses and sectors are reassessing how we function, operate and engage as well as the impact of our previously accepted paradigms and now that Covid has taught us to behave and perform differently we cannot go back to putting our heads in the sand. As we seek to change we need to see what we can do and see the changes as acceptable, adoptable and acknowledged by others. This event is an opportunity providing a platform to do this. In an era where so much has changed and the opportunities for this type of engagement have been so rare, it is important that we maximise the potential of the exposure to "multitask", using this as both an opportunity to explain and educate on sustainable living, working, transport and practices; share the knowledge we have access to; engage with providers; and enable collaborations among as many constituents of the community as we can. We really are all in this together. As a hybrid event it will be open to attend in person or online.
