Grassroots has been a continuation from my time studying a BA in Photography at the University of Suffolk. This body of work has explored grassroots football across the UK, in a series juxtaposing financial uncertainty with the love of the game. Due to a combination of, lack of funding year in and year out and the advance of technology more and more young teenagers and young adolescents are not getting the opportunity to take part in football, a privilege that most of us should be able to have. Grassroots is trying to encourage and celebrate the communities across the UK still providing this opportunity to those that want to experience football but do not know where to turn. Whilst this project also explores offer themes and concepts, the main name for the funding is to put towards mini exhibitions across the UK to get more participants involved in the most watched sport worldwide and keep the heritage of football in the UK alive.

What we'll deliver:

  • Mini Exhibitions across the UK accessible for the communities in the local areas.

Why it's a great idea:

When I was a young boy from the age of 5 years old, I was fortunate enough to have lots of opportunities to get involved and play football, and it is these opportunities that I personally want to create and path a way and inspire men and women of all ages to get involved. Sporting activities not only is important for our physical health but are a wonderful opportunity to increase you mental well being. A place for you to be open, free, and realise potentially that you are not alone. Football should bring people together and celebrate one another, a place for all that get involved a chance to feel that you belong a sense of place, community and family. This project is open for each individual to take from it, what they can. To be open to the ideas of joining a new club, team if that is competitively or purely socially. Grassroots is there to encourage all the above and gives those a chance to also explore arts and culture across the UK.

Steps to get it done:

  • Creating and gaining access to the gallery spaces for the mini exhibitions
