Glengall Wharf Garden is one of the many jewels in the heart of Peckham, South London. The garden is located on the site of a disused wharf once connected to the Grand Surrey Canal. In 2012 it was transformed by local people into an amazing community garden - somewhere to take time out from the hustle and bustle of London life and a great resource for groups of local people to come together to volunteer, learn and share skills; a place to improve physical and mental well-being. We have an exciting plan for a Community Yurt for the garden - a big, round wooden-framed tent that can be used as a meeting, learning and healing space, where affordable therapies such as massage, reflexology and homeopathy can be offered to the community. We need your support to make this new haven right in the heart of Peckham.

What we'll deliver:

  • The cost of a yurt, plinth foundations and a lockable door
  • The cost of fencing for the neighbouring site
  • The installation of the yurt and fencing in the garden
  • Permaculture planting and design for the surrounding area

Why it's a great idea:

The project is a great idea as it brings together the diverse range of groups that currently use the garden on a shared project. These include Maintaining Health Partners community lunches, affordable homeopathy clinic, yoga and massage sessions A toddler group Grown in Peckham - a food-growing project for local business and organisations Herb Tuesdays - a herb growing project for people with mental health difficulties Groups that look after the chickens and bees Other projects that actively focus on improving mental and physical health A permaculture group

Steps to get it done:

  • Buying a yurt
  • Installing the yurt base and yurt
  • Installing fencing
  • Permaculture planting
