We have an empty, stripped van ready to have cupboards, work station, lift up couch fitted so we can provide safe adequate healthcare to the homeless community in Redbridge. We need funds for on going running costs such as fuel/repairs etc. We also need a defibrillator on board to meet all possible healthcare scenarios. The idea of the project is to improve the health outcomes of the homeless community in Redbridge . Homeless clients live chaotic lives and don't access healthcare when they should. There lifestyle means if they are given appointments that they have to wait for they often prioritize something else and don't go. This project is bringing healthcare to them in an appropriate clean space.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
MOBILE ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE. CHAOTIC LIVES AMONG THIS GROUP MEAN THEY DO NOT ATTEND APPOINTMENTS OR PRIORITIZE THEIR HEALTH , BY HAVING THE VAN WE BRING THE HEALTHCARE TO THEM. IF THEY SEE US WE WILL BRING DOWN SOME A+E ATTENDANCE IF WE ARE ABLE TO MANAGE THE FEMALE CLIENTS SMEAR TESTS ON THE VAN WE WILL SEE POSITIVE OUTCOMES AS AT PRESENT OUT FEMALE CLIENTS DO NOT ATTEND THE GP FOR A SMEAR TEST AND THEY ARE IN A HIGHER RISK CATEGORY OF DEVELOPING CERVICAL CANCER. THEY KNOW US AND ARE MORE LIKELY TO TRUST US TO DO THIS TEST FOR THEM. AT PRESENT WE SEE CLIENTS IN THEIR HOSTELS/TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION/STREETS/DAYCARE - THE VAN OFFERS AN APPROPRIATE CLEAN SPACE TO FIND AND TREAT AS WELL AS PRIVACY FOR THE CLIENT AND A SAFE SPACE FOR US. IF THE FUNDING ALSO ENABLED US TO HAVE A DEFIBRILLATOR ON BOARD WE WOULD BE READY FOR ANY SCENARIO WE ENCOUNTER.
