“FUR THE MOVIE” is a musically driven comedy set in the bustling beach city of Swansea, South Wales. The film centres on its lead character Sharly Shakti, a young Welsh-Indian singer - song writer, who’s life is spiralling downwards, due to the unforgiving cultures that surround her, along with the pain of Sharly’s broken family and the many racial obstacles, which distract her dream of becoming a recording artist. Sharly works hard at the local chip shop café, whilst juggling her family life, caring for her disabled sister Dayita, her mother Sahid and her desire to audition for the new female rock band “FUR”. The film leans heavily towards its female characters which include the other four band members, “Baby Tooth”, “Kate”, “Terri” & Danni, who are ambitiously interpolating their endeavours to get in the band, along with the constant complications of a teenage girl’s life. The films setting is Swansea and includes a host of brilliantly colourful characters throughout its journey.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The film will bring in over 200 jobs within the production itself, with a planned spend of the budget in Swansea. There will be huge opportunities for young people and students alike to get on board this film, to train in production roles, gaining valuable hands on film work experience to further their career paths into the industry or further their education. This will include people of all ages, backgrounds and ethnicities who wish to take part. We intend to work closely with local colleges and Universities to give people a chance to sample the workings of a feature film production, whilst we go throught the many processes of the development , pre-production , production & post-prodiuction stages of the film. The film will be a huge boost to Swansea city and surrounding areas, as we will show the City in a beautiful light and make it uplifting to the viewer. The film is a very colourful and enigmatic musical comedy that reaches out to many different cultures we have here in Wales.
Steps to get it done:
We feel that FUR THE MOVIE could be part of a trilogy of films and music albums that will no doubt boost the economy of Swansea and its small businesses. The Idea behind the film is that Wales has never had a Female rock band , which should not be the case. The film will hightlight the fact that Wales, with all its female talent should be represented with a successful female band, who will actually come together for the film and to also record music after it and go on to sell albums. We will then look to take FUR the rock band on the road and perform at live music events. FUR THE MOVIE will not only give Swansea City a huge amount of possitive exposure, but it will be instrumental in the diversity of looking at creating Wales's first female rock band. We hope to include many members of the public, who will not only get to watch the film coming together around them , but for all those who wish to take part in some of the flash mob dance sequences and be part of the making of the film
