We will be providing increased sports and physical activity opportunities through a new state of the art athletics track. The track will be based at Three Hills Sports Park (THSP) and will be a fantastic addition to the many sports currently available at THSP. Our target is to open the track in July 22. With this funding it will enable us to provide a fully equipped and accessible Athletic Track that can provide accessible track and field opportunities and sessions to all ages and abilities. This equipment will enable residents of all ages to participate in a sport that isn’t always accessible due to the number of facilities available locally and as a result of not having specialist equipment in place. Alongside a new track & field facility, qualified and experienced coaches/volunteers and specialist equipment will enable access to athletics and also a pathway of participation at all levels from beginners to international level.

What we'll deliver:

  • Specialist jumping equipment (high jump stands, rain covers, pole vault uprights, mats etc)
  • Specialist running equipment (time keeper stands, hurdles, lap counter bells, blank firer etc)
  • Specialist throwing equipment (shot put, discus, javelin & hammer equipment)
  • Other specialist equipment (chalk stand, horns, measuring devices, cages etc)

Why it's a great idea:

Currently Folkestone and Hythe does not have an athletics track within the district and residents have to leave the district to access the nearest track. Through consultation in partnership with Folkestone Running Club the need for such a facility is obvious and also the health, wellbeing and social benefits the track can and will offer to residents of all ages. One of the main target groups for use of the track will be all primary, secondary and special education needs schools. Currently the only options available to schools in Folkestone & Hythe is to leave the district or use local green areas/parks or their green areas for delivery of athletics, which are not accessible. We will have accessible sessions and a facility able to accommodate the needs of all ages and abilities. By working in partnerships with orgs within our communities we will have specific sessions that meet the needs of residents including sessions for disabled and older residents and women only programmes.

Steps to get it done:

  • Buy specialist equipment
  • Install equipment on track
