We will offer a variety of positive work experiences to local young people to help them to move from education to paid and fulfilling employment. We will work with a diverse range of young people from local schools, clubs and organisations. We reflect an inclusive workplace by supporting a range of abilities from able bodied, through to young people with physical, learning or communication difficulties. Others have caring responsibilities or other barriers to training and employment. We have a team of adult volunteers from Kingston Riverside Rotary Club, Surbiton Farmers’ Market and local young people’s group who will run the crepe stall, and who have specialist knowledge in catering, business and child welfare. The volunteers will act as trainers/mentors to the young people and provide them with the support they need to participate. The Flipping Amazing stall will make and sell crepes at the monthly Surbiton Farmer’s Market and other select events.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The commercial product of the business is to make and sell a mouth-watering selection of sweet and savoury crepes at a local Farmers' Market, but the heart of the project is the positive outcomes for young people. Young people working with us will: - Gain experience of a real recruitment process, - Create a personalised plan for skills development - Gain a food hygiene certificate - Work in an area of the crepe business that match their skill needs including: food preparation, business planning, managing budgets, stall management, customer services and marketing - Be supported by a team of volunteers - Support to find further training or employment opportunities The aim is for you the young people to be better prepared for work and to build self-esteem, confidence, teamwork, problem-solving, resilience, people skills, time keeping, reliability and trust.
Steps to get it done:
The greatest reward for funding this project will be the growth in confidence and opportunity for young people involved ....in addition to that: - £50 pledges will receive a free crepe - £100 pledges will receive a free crepe, and have their name or logo included on a supporters board and promotional material - £500 pledges will receive a free crepe every month for a year, have their name or logo included on a supporters board and promotional material and a big hug from one of the Directors (optional)
