Fibre For Scholars Walk! Fibre For You! Together we can achieve the goal of getting super-fast internet to Scholars Walk, but we need you to make it happen!
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
We have obtained a quote from Openreach to get the cabinet on the estate enabled so the estate can have access to fibre. To get this to happen we need to reach the funding target and soon. The work would be limited to the cabinet itself so would not cause disruption and the result would be the ability to get the service and speeds that we deserve. We can all see the increasing reliance on the internet and the speeds we get at the moment are stopping our estate benefiting from these changes. The only way to make this happen is by your support. There are no handouts so we need to come together as a community to benefit the community
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
We are stuck with download speeds of around 8MB/s and 1MB/s upload - this makes it near impossible to have multiple people using the same internet connection at the same time. With fibre we would get up to 80MB/s download and 20MB/s up - the site survey has verified this. Unlike with Virgin this would not require any roads/footpaths to be dug up, the work would be limited to upgrading the cabinet. Video and audio streaming services would be quicker and this would also mean that we would have access to the streaming packages offered by providers that have not previously been able to guarantee the quality of experience on the poor speeds we have at the moment
