Light is the everlasting source of life, and is celebrated by many cultures around the globe. During the short days of winter, many of these cultures partake in festivals to celebrate the beauty and vitality of light, such as Diwali - the Festival of Lights. In an effort to bring together the different communities within Aylesbury - regardless of an individual’s faith - we plan to make this year’s event a vibrant spectacle of dance and activity. With a myriad of performances from dancers, bands and buskers, as well as an array of local stallholders and world cuisine.

What we'll deliver:

  • Bollywood & Cultural Dance Performance and interactive dance workshop
  • Giving health and wellbeing workshops such as yoga and meditation
  • Event accessible to all by including facilities for disabilities ie hearing, mobility
  • A hybrid event of online and in person to allow for COVID restriction
  • Indian Dhol drummers performance where visitors can dance to the beat
  • Classical Sitar recitals and demonstrations - visitors can experience up close and have a go
  • Chanting and transalation/explanation of ancient vedic scriptures
  • Decorate a traditional clay diya Craft activites
  • Sari Draping - and display of traditional Indian attire
  • Story telling of the legends and mythology behind the festival

Why it's a great idea:

The wider community can came together to celebrate, learn, experience and understand the Indian culture. Last year we had to be very creative and delivered a very successful virtual event over four weeks attracting visitors from across the globe We have invited various groups to take part, including schools, community and charity groups, and we welcome anyone wishing to take part. By also giving businesses promotion and sponsorship opportunities. People who get involved through our volunteer program also benefit from working with a multi-skilled environment. Economic opportunities for local vendors and businesses that have trade and sponsorship opportunities. More understanding and appreciation from Indian and non Indian communities to embrace each others differences
