Our campaign is to provide help for more families in Chichester and the surrounding towns and villages with help and support. We want to run family groups and match families with volunteers.

Being a parent, whatever your situation, can be very challenging, especially when children are young. Many parents feel exhausted and overwhelmed by the stresses of family life. For some parents it’s a particular struggle because they are also coping with post-natal depression, disability, illness, multiple births, and money worries. Sometimes their situations are so challenging that their family is at risk of breaking down. There is a lot of pressure on parents to be ‘perfect’ parents and they can feel very judged. This is where Home-Start Chichester & District steps in. We don’t judge families; we match trained local volunteers who have parenting experience with a family. They visit regularly and offer emotional and practical support. This friendly parent-to-parent support is a simple yet effective way of enabling families to get back on track. We also want to provide Family Groups where families can drop in, relax, let their children play, meet other families, and get help.

What we'll deliver:

  • • Family Group in Midhurst every other Wednesday in the Midhurst Methodist Church Hall. Lunch will be provided!
  • • Promote our support across the Chichester District, especially in the north of our District.
  • • Family Group in Chichester every Wednesday at the Chichester Nursery School Children and Family Centre
  • Recruit and train volunteers
  • • Match volunteers with families who will visit them every week at home

Why it's a great idea:

This is a good idea because people who have been parents themselves know all about the challenges of raising young children. We ask members of our local community to volunteer to help other families who are struggling to cope. We train the volunteers and carefully match them with a family. The volunteers visit their family every week and offer a helping hand, a listening ear. Volunteers will also help our Coordinators to run our Family Groups. There are very few activities for parents and toddlers, especially in the north of our district where families are isolated. Many families struggle to get to the Family Group at Midhurst so volunteers offer to drive them to the Group. At the Family Groups they get to meet other parents, children play together, and volunteers and our Coordinators are on hand for any advice and help.

Steps to get it done:

  • Promote our Family Groups and volunteer support – especially in the north of the District
  • Recruit volunteers – especially in the north of the District
  • Run the Family Group twice a month in Midhurst and every week in Chichester.
