I am keen to bring our community together to tackle the issue of poor broadband speeds in the Bloor Homes development. I know that the slow internet speeds we are experiencing are an issue for many of us. As a new build estate, we are not scheduled to benefit from the rollout of fibre in Gloucestershire and there are no plans to improve the current poor broadband speeds.
I have made an approach to Openreach and they could deploy a new fibre cabinet with speeds of up to 80mbps to our community for £4,684. We could all benefit from an open access network and all ongoing costs of maintaining and repairing the network would be borne by Openreach. This approach is known as a Community Fibre Partnership (CFP) and over 300 communities in the UK have already gone down this route and signed contracts with Openreach.
To move the discussions forward, I'm looking for support so we all club together to fund the upgrade to benefit from a fast fibre connection.
What we'll deliver:
- A new fibre cabinet (Fairford Exchanged 6) via Openreach
Why it's a great idea:
Upgrading Fairford Exchange cabinet 6 represents an investment in our homes to benefit from decent broadband speeds. This will make it easier for our children to access educational web resources, for everyone to access entertain packages and on-demand services, improve our ability to work from home, and use Facetime / Skype etc to keep in touch with family and friends.
Steps to get it done:
- Reaching the investment needed to upgrade the cabinet to fibre (£4,684)
