We need your help to grow-We plan to renovate 5 derelict buildings and two rusty containers to inspire young people through creativity in Wood Green. Everyone's Climbing Tree (ECT) is a not-for-profit company and family run community arts centre in Wood Green, North London. ECT was established by the Sabbagh family after the death of local community figure, and their father and husband Mustapha Sabbagh in 2010. Since then we have been curating community workshops and events for people of all ages and backgrounds. Through alternative teaching techniques and a strong ethos of communal learning we have developed a reputation for youth engagement. Supported by Youth Music and Arts Council England our programme of West African percussion, often working with young people excluded from mainstream education, has had a massive impact. Over the past seven years we have assisted many young people, helping them grow into the resilient and positive young adults they are today.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
We aim to combine start up entrepreneurial talent and youth mentoring to create an organic localised model that has the ability to be self funded. Renovating these derelict railway buildings will enable ECT to be a self reliant and robust organisation with the ability to plan steadily into the future. Through our family run and community ethos, we have helped young people who had no where else to turn. Much of our work is embedded in the local community through performance of our young musicians and sharing of creative work. We also provide volunteer opportunities for our young people this helps provide them with real responsibilities/life experience helping to deliver our open community workshops. Our model is very subtle but has had a massive and localised impact on all involved. It would be amazing if the potential of our organisation could be fully realised with the support of Spacehive and the Mayors Crowdfunding Initiative. Thanks for your time.
Steps to get it done:
Location Haringey
About the space
Everyone's Climbing Tree site is located on both the economic and demographic central boundary that divides the Haringey borough East to West. Our community workshops and youth performance groups reflect this mixed demographic. We have strived to create an environment where people of all different backgrounds can learn from each others differences.
