The project will be run at Ashmole Academy premises on Saturdays especially for, but not limited to, children residing in Southgate ward and its neighbourhood. The parents we consulted stated that they could not afford expensive programmes however still knew the positive effect of extended learning programmes involving both academic and enjoyable sessions on the children's attainment and self-confidence. This project will also keep the children safely away from the streets on Saturdays when parents have less control on the children’s daily activities outside of the home, which is needed very much in the area. The project will provide the proposed extended learning programme for the students who urgently need literacy and numeracy support. The programme will have small class sizes and the proposed teacher to student ratio is 1:6. The goal for our project is for every child to enjoy and achieve through our weekly English and Maths lessons as well as clubs such as arts and drama.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
We have consulted over 30 parents in Southgate and we have found out the below results: - Most parents struggle to find dedicated after school programmes which will address the academic and social needs of their children. - Majority of the immigrant parents worry about the fact that they cannot help their children with school work due to the fear that they will 'get it wrong'. - Children on EAL (English as an Additional Language) band, mainly struggle with spelling and writing in English and fractions and algebra in maths. - All parents state that they need educational consultancy in various areas. Therefore, we believe that our programme is greatly needed in the area.
