Culture of Colours

Varsha Patel By Varsha Patel

Create a culture of colours music dance video as a promo and engage over 50’ to attend weekly dance classes in and around Edgware area.

Edgware Delivery stage

£50
pledged of £3,233

Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

Hire a number of dance or community halls in the area to deliver weekly interactive dance classes for the over 50’ giving them various timing options of afternoon or evening sessions and variety of dance - western Bollywood, classical indian or Latin /burlesque sessions. The project aims to involve people in and around Edgware to participate including encouraging disabled people attendance. The promo song and dance music video will feature a male and female vocal either African singer singing Indian music lyrics in local Kiswahili or similar language with the second singer singing in Hindi with backdrop of over 50’ dancing and showcasing the beauty of Canons Park and the seven acre lake in Edgware. The video backdrop scenes will have different cultures from all walks of life participating and enjoying together as a community in the area.

What we'll deliver:

  • 3 weekly dance classes
  • Work with Black and Indian male and female singers to produce the video
  • Promo culture video

Why it's a great idea:

The over 50’s have suffered a lot by being in lockdown during the Covid-19 period, mainly staying at home to remain safe and have had very little enjoyment, exercise or fitness workout in the form of dance sessions. The project will hopefully encourage the over 50’ to come out from staying at home and start enjoying and participating again by attending the dance classes. It will also improve their well-being, mental fitness as well as physical workout in a happy enjoyable way rather than doing keep-fit exercises or yoga which can become monotonous and boring. In a test project earlier in the year before lockdown, the people attending were diverse, men as well as ladies from different cultures mixing and trying Indian or western dance sessions. The whole group expanded and enlarged with over 50’s travelling from as far as Wembley, Finchley, Barnet to join the dance sessions. A lot of support was gained to continue the sessions with even disabled people participating.

Steps to get it done:

  • Create and shoot the promo dance video with two ethnic minority singers
